About SPPIN
The Saints-Pères Paris Institute for the Neurosciences (SPPIN, UMR 8003) is a Joint Research Unit under the supervision of the CNRS and Université Paris Cité, and a CNRS flagship institute for neurophotonics, biophysics, molecular and cellular neuroscience and neurophysiology.
Founded in 2019 as a bottom-up initiative by scientists with expertise in optics, biophysics, molecular and cellular neurosciences and neurophysiology, SPPIN has grown within a few years into a thematically and methodologically coherent institute, recognized at both national and international levels. A hallmark of the institute is its original positioning at the interface of optics, biophysics and fundamental neuroscience, with a strong technological component that provides it with a distinctive identity and visibility.

Our research & scientific axes
SPPIN brings together 8 research teams whose work aims at characterising the mechanisms underlying higher brain functions, from synaptic transmission to neuronal network activity and their translation into specific behaviours. The teams are organized around four major scientific axes, fostering interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches.
The four research axes are:
- Organelle Biology and Subcellular Signaling
- Optic and instrumentation
- From Synaptic Physiology to System Neuroscience
- Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders
